"How to Play the Violin" is part of an ongoing “How to Play Music” series that investigates non-sounding and extra-musical rituals of musical performance to better underscore the impositions placed on (ableist) bodily expressions. Visitors to the gallery are given the option to play a violin and write down their experiences post-performance. A wall didactic, made up of found proper instrument handling poses from instructional books and stock images are provided to the viewer for further performance encouragement. A collection of found violin playing warm up exercises, decontextualized in this case, is presented in the form of a visual score in a takeaway publication.

This iteration occurred at Wave Pool in Cincinnati OH, 2019.
